Photoshop is a great graphics editor. It was originally designed for photo editing, but it can be used for many other tasks, especially web design. These days, nearly all professional web designers are using Photoshop to build websites because of its powerful features and easy to use tools. If you have never designed a website before, you can use Photoshop to handle everything from design to coding for you. If you are new to the web design world you can get a website up and running quickly without learning HTML and CSS.

Using Photoshop to design a website is not the same as designing a brochure, for example. You need to know the limitations of the current web browsers and the functions available on the web. For example, you might come up with something that’s totally amazing, but later you find out your design isn’t buildable. Understanding the limitations will allow you to bend the rules without breaking them! Many website design professionals tend to prefer to design the layout and graphics in Photoshop and then slice the images afterward. So if you are serious about designing websites you need to use software like Dreamweaver along with Photoshop.

Designing websites in Photoshop is simple because you can almost create any effects or graphics with the available tools. The only limitation is your brain. If you can think of it, you can create it in Photoshop. Also, it has many web friendly tools in the recent version which makes building websites even quicker and more enjoyable. Photoshop’s slicing tool is something that you will use the most; you can quickly cut out the images for a website or export to Dreamweaver. Because both softwares are now linked together, you can pass files from one to another quickly and effectively. If you don’t have any web programming knowledge you can only go so far with Photoshop, so if you want to design professional websites then you need to learn HTML and CSS. Fortunately, they are quite simple to learn and there are many resources like books, videos and blogs that are available on the net.
